Healthcare design is one of the most consequential disciplines in architecture. Every decision — from corridor width to lighting color temperature — measurably affects patient outcomes, staff performance, and operational efficiency. At AV Design International, our medical portfolio reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based design.
Our work on the Abdallah Omran Specialty Hospital in Dubai exemplifies this approach. Patient rooms were oriented to maximize natural light exposure, which studies show can reduce hospital stays by up to 2.6 days. Wayfinding systems use intuitive color coding and clear sightlines to reduce patient anxiety and staff navigation time.
Material hygiene was paramount without sacrificing warmth. We specified antimicrobial surfaces in clinical areas while using natural wood-look finishes, soft textiles, and curated artwork in patient-facing spaces. The goal: clinical spaces that feel medically rigorous but emotionally supportive.
Staff areas received equal attention. Break rooms with access to daylight and nature views, ergonomic nurse stations with clear patient visibility, and acoustic separation between high-activity zones and rest areas all contribute to reduced burnout and improved care quality.
